Call Forwarding Setup — Use Your Existing Phone Number with AI Receptionist

You don't need to change your phone number to use DeepCura's AI Receptionist. Keep your existing number and simply forward calls to your dedicated AI answering line. When you're ready to stop, remove the forwarding — your original number is completely unaffected.

How It Works

  1. DeepCura provisions an AI phone number for you — during setup, the AI Setup Agent purchases a dedicated Twilio phone number in your preferred area code. This is the number the AI Receptionist answers.
  2. You set up call forwarding on your existing phone — configure your current phone system (office line, cell phone, Google Voice, or VoIP) to forward calls to the DeepCura AI number.
  3. Calls ring your AI Receptionist — forwarded calls are answered by the AI, which greets patients, schedules appointments, sends links, collects payments, and routes urgent calls.

Forwarding Options

How you forward calls depends on your needs:

  • Forward all calls — every incoming call goes to the AI Receptionist (ideal for solo practices or after switching fully to AI answering)
  • After-hours only — set conditional forwarding so calls forward to the AI only when your office is closed or you don't answer within a set number of rings
  • Overflow / busy forwarding — forward calls when your line is busy, so the AI handles overflow during peak hours

These options are configured in your phone system's call forwarding settings, not in DeepCura.

Compatible Phone Systems

Call forwarding works with virtually any phone system that supports it:

  • Google Voice — Settings → Calls → Forward calls
  • Cell phones — All major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) support call forwarding via dialer codes or settings
  • Landlines — Most carriers support *72 (activate) and *73 (deactivate)
  • VoIP systems — RingCentral, Vonage, Ooma, Grasshopper, and others have forwarding in their admin portals
  • PBX / office phone systems — Configure in your PBX admin panel under call routing rules

Setup Instructions

Step 1: Get Your AI Receptionist Phone Number

During the AI Receptionist setup in DeepCura, the Setup Agent will ask for your preferred area code and provision a dedicated phone number. You'll see this number in your Call Template settings. Only one AI phone number is provisioned per account.

Step 2: Set Up Forwarding on Your Phone

Google Voice

  1. Open Google Voice (voice.google.com)
  2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
  3. Under Calls, find Forward calls
  4. Add your DeepCura AI phone number as a forwarding destination
  5. Verify the number when prompted

AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile (Cell Phones)

  • Forward all calls: Dial *72 + your DeepCura AI number, then press Call
  • Cancel forwarding: Dial *73 and press Call
  • Forward when unanswered: Dial *71 + your DeepCura AI number (carrier-dependent)

You can also set up forwarding in your carrier's app or account settings online.

Office Landlines

  • Pick up the handset and dial *72
  • Wait for dial tone, then dial your DeepCura AI number
  • Wait for confirmation tone or the AI to answer
  • Hang up — forwarding is now active
  • To cancel: pick up and dial *73

VoIP Systems (RingCentral, Vonage, etc.)

  1. Log into your VoIP admin portal
  2. Navigate to Call Handling or Call Forwarding rules
  3. Add a forwarding rule pointing to your DeepCura AI number
  4. Set conditions (always, after hours, when busy) as needed

Step 3: Test Your Setup

Call your original number from another phone. The call should forward to the AI Receptionist. You can also use the Test Call feature in DeepCura's setup to verify the AI is answering correctly.

Important Notes

  • Your original number stays yours — DeepCura does not port, transfer, or modify your existing phone number. Forwarding is a setting on your phone, not a change to the number itself.
  • If you unsubscribe, remove the forwarding from your phone system. Your original number continues to work as before.
  • One AI number per account — DeepCura provisions one dedicated phone number per account. All your call templates share this number.
  • SMS capability included — your AI phone number is automatically enrolled in Twilio's Messaging Service for reliable SMS delivery (A2P 10DLC compliant).
  • Call transfers — the AI Receptionist can warm-transfer calls to another phone number when a patient needs to speak with staff directly.
