In this article, you learn a simple, step-by-step process to extract key data from PDFs and immediately get a concise summary or deeper analysis of their contents. You can upload a single PDF or up to 1,000 documents at once.
DeepCura's OCR (Optical Character Recognition) allows you to upload a PDF and extract key information from it.
For example:
- Long medical reports: Upload a multi-page PDF from another provider and receive just the sections you care about.
- Lab results: Snap or upload a lab sheet, then have DeepCura automatically highlight values that fall outside normal ranges.
- Bulk chart imports: Upload up to 1,000 medical records, intake forms, or clinical PDFs at once and let DeepCura process them all in the background.

Our OCR only works with PDFs, not Word documents. If you have a Word file, just copy and paste the text into "Add patient context."
📝 Step 1: Define exactly what you want & Build your template

Create your Template
1. Go to Templates
2. Press on Custom Prompt Builder and type in the title and the request.
3. Click save template
📎 Step 2: Attach PDF to your patient
1. Find your patient and open their page.
2. Click the attachment icon 📎 and upload your PDF.
3. This red icon here shows you that a document or a recording has been attached.
🚀 Step 3: Run analysis
- Select your custom template from the dropdown.
Watch for the warning badge in the top-right. It shows your file is being analyzed in the background. You can keep working while it processes.
🎯 Step 4: Review the results
Once processing finishes, you'll see a neat summary or analysis of exactly what you asked for.
📦 Bulk Upload: Up to 1,000 PDFs at Once
Need to process a large batch of medical records, chart notes, lab results, or referral letters? DeepCura supports bulk PDF upload — up to 1,000 documents in a single batch.
How to bulk upload:
1. Go to Patient Notes (sidebar → Patients).
2. Create a new patient (click "+ New Patient" in the top right) or open an existing patient's chart.
3. Inside the patient chart, click the clipboard icon 📋 right next to the "Ask AI" button. This opens the bulk upload interface.
4. Select or drag up to 1,000 PDF files. Choose your note template — the AI will process all documents and generate structured notes.
5. Optional — use as context: After the AI generates notes from your PDFs, click the pot icon 🍯 in the top-right toolbar, then check the box next to the generated note. This lets you chat with it or use it as context when recording a patient visit.
Tip: For bulk uploads, Gemini 3 Flash is recommended — it handles up to 1,000 pages with the fastest processing speed. Use Gemini 3 Pro if you need deeper extraction quality at the same scale.
